Feld

West Town · Chicago · Planning guide

Feld serves one $225 tasting menu, written that morning from the day's produce and cooked in the middle of the dining room. Everyone sits down at once. The kitchen can't do vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free or egg-free, so check that before anything else.

$540 for two before tax

The FAQ puts the menu at $225 a person "before tax and service fee." Feld adds a 20% service charge instead of asking for tips, and says the money goes to the staff. Two menus come to $540 before tax and drinks, and you don't need to tip on top.

There's an alcoholic pairing and a non-alcoholic one. Both change daily, and you can buy them with the reservation or ask on arrival, but the site doesn't give their prices. There's also a bottle list and a few rare spirits. Corkage isn't allowed.

FAQ with price and service charge · Beverages

The food calculation is 2 × $225 = $450, plus $90 service = $540. Tax and all drinks are extra.

Watch the release and the one-week rule

Reservations are on Tock. The FAQ's general rule is that each month opens at noon on the first of the month, two months ahead, so all of June opens at noon on April 1. Feld now also announces release dates through its newsletter and social media. If you're after a particular month, get on the newsletter.

Changes need at least a week's notice. Cancel inside that week and Feld tries to refill your seats from the waitlist. If it can't, "you will be charged the full cost of the meal." Reservations are transferable, and Feld suggests handing yours to a friend if something comes up that late. For emergencies, email info@feldrestaurant.com. Feld has no phone, so email and messages through Tock are the only ways to reach it.

FAQ with release, cancellation and transfer rules

The FAQ does not specify the release time zone, initial payment or deposit credit, or regular party limit. Confirm those on Tock. It also publishes no meal duration; our advice is to leave the evening's finish flexible.

Check the dietary limits first

Feld can't accommodate vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free or egg-free diets, because each day's menu is built from what the farmers send. Vegetarians are told to come in late spring or summer, not autumn or winter. Any other restriction has to be raised when you book, or at least 24 hours before the meal. The FAQ says restrictions first mentioned on arrival can't be accommodated. Feld also says the evening isn't suitable for anyone under 12. You can email to ask, but a child would eat the full adult menu.

Feld is in West Town, at 2018 W. Chicago Avenue, not the West Loop. The 66 and 50 buses stop a short walk away. There's no valet. Chicago Avenue has meters, and Hoyne Avenue, a block away, has free parking with no permit needed. The only dress rule is "no shoes, no shirt, no service." Photos are fine without flash, but ask before filming staff. The site says nothing about step-free access.

Compare before booking

Elske offers à la carte as well as a set menu, while Feld serves one daily menu without supplements. Two Feld menus cost $540 with service before tax and drinks; Elske's set menus are $301.60 with its removable surcharge before tax and tip. The figures include different charges.

EL Ideas explicitly accepts vegan diners, subject to confirming the request. Feld excludes vegan, gluten-free, lactose-free and egg-free diets. Feld's one-week change deadline is also a commitment to make before fitting the meal into uncertain travel plans.
